We must fight to build a better Texas for working families. As a native Texan, raised in a blue-collar family, I know what it means to roll up my sleeves to push towards a more prosperous future. That’s what I will do for my neighbors and friends in Texas State House District 126.
Why I’m Dedicated to Serving
My story is the story of the American dream. My parents came to this country seeking better, safer lives. I have faced many tough challenges, but was able to overcome them. Now, I’m in a position to serve.
While attending the University of Houston, I met my first husband and celebrated the birth of my first daughter. We were raising her together when my husband was convicted of a crime he committed before we met. With the support of my parents as well as public services including food stamps and Medicaid, plus continuing to work as a server to make ends meet, I managed to stay in school. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in both psychology and political science, and then went on to earn a Master of Public Policy and Administration from the University of St. Thomas.
After graduating, I dedicated myself to giving back to the community that had seen me through tough times. I went to work serving the people of Texas, first at the City of Houston and then in U.S. Representative Gene Green’s district office. Through organizing job fairs, tax assistance clinics, and community service projects, I experienced firsthand the value of representatives connecting in a meaningful way with their constituents.
How I’m Serving You Today
For the past decade, I’ve worked to make our community safer, more beautiful, and more prosperous for everyone who lives, works, and plays here. As deputy executive director at Hawes Hill & Associates, I work with our board of directors to improve the district through public safety initiatives, environmental and urban design projects, and community development programs.
I am an alumna of Leadership North Houston, have volunteered for Child Advocates, and currently serve as a commissioner for Keep Houston Beautiful. I’m not waiting to be elected to give back to our community – I’m putting in the work today so that our families can enjoy a better future for generations to come.
Your Representative Should Represent You
I’m the proud mother of three beautiful daughters, Madison, Marley, and Mae. My husband, Mark, is a United States Air Force veteran who supports my drive for public service. We choose to live in this community because we believe that it is an excellent place to raise our family while acknowledging that we still have work to do. As your representative, I will focus on expanding Medicaid and improving public education. I’m deeply committed to economic development and addressing blight in the district – we all deserve to live on clean and safe streets.
I know the real District 126. I grew up in Texas, and a passion to serve our community runs in my veins. I understand both the needs of our district residents and the policies that can make our lives better.
